Creating a Long Lasting Dark Pine Shade

If a dark staining wax such as Briwax is applied to new pine the colour fades quickly leaving an anaemic looking shade within a few weeks.

For a long lasting colour a coat of Finney's Antique Pine or Dark Pine Professional Water Stain is applied before waxing. To achieve a slightly aged effect, after the stain has dried, the wood is lightly sand with 240 grade Flexi-cut Paper.

Next either Fiddes Stripped Pine / Rugger Brown Supreme Wax or Briwax P7 Medium Brown Paste is applied with a pad of Ultra Fine 0000 Grade Steel Wool, buffing to a subtle sheen. That way the colour will last for years!
